Quite often, for various reasons: be it the unprofessionalism of the photographer, the imperfection of the automatic adjustment modes of the camera, or the unfavorable lighting in which the photograph is taken, the final photographs turn out to be too dark. The situation can be corrected using Adobe Photoshop and its basic tools.
Necessary
- - photo with a darkened background
- - a computer with Adobe Photoshop installed
Instructions
Step 1
Upload a photo file that needs lightening of the background. If necessary, pre-crop unnecessary edges of the frame and prepare the image for work at the final size. If the photo is too dark, and even the brightest details and places in it look muted, try one simple operation.
Step 2
Find Auto Contrast in the Image menu. This action will not lead to loss of information in the photo, which distinguishes it from most other operations. Not a single detail will disappear from the photo, which is very important for subsequent processing. As a result of this action, the lightest areas will become as bright as possible, the darkest ones - in fact, the darkest ones, that is, the dynamic range of the image is optimized. Thanks to this, it becomes possible to correct errors made during the selection of the exposure, due to the automation of the camera or the inept actions of the photographer. Usually the image becomes clearer and brighter after this operation.
Step 3
Make adjustments to the overall gamut of the image. Apply the "Levels" command from the Image> Adjustments menu. You can also use the key combination Ctrl + L for this.
Step 4
To even out the tonality of the picture, move the middle slider under the histogram to the left until the photo's illumination becomes the desired level, pleasing to the eye. This correction method is safer than, for example, the standard Brightness / Contrast operation.
