A USB flash drive is a very convenient storage and data transfer tool that can be connected to any device with a USB port. Unfortunately, due to the portability of this tool, the data stored on it can be easily compromised, which means that it needs to be protected.
Firstly, it should be noted that unfortunately, you cannot set a password for the entire USB flash drive. In order to set a password for a fragment stored on a USB flash drive, special software is required.
Standard tools
For example, if you do not need to completely protect the entire USB flash drive, but only need to lock some files with a password, then you can easily do this by simply setting a password in the "Security" item (right-click on the folder, select "Properties"). In addition, some programs, such as Microsoft Word, Excel and others, allow you to set a password for a file with their help. To do this, just go to the "Service" tab and select "Options" in the drop-down menu. In the "Security" menu, you can set a password for: launching a document or sharing it (including copying, moving, etc.).
Special software
Naturally, in addition to the standard Windows operating system tools and subsidiary programs, you can use the capabilities of other software. For example, the Rohos Mini Drive program allows you to work even without administrator rights. The free version of this program can be easily found on the Internet. It allows the user to create a password-encrypted or even a hidden partition up to 2GB in size. In order to work with the program, it is enough to download and copy it to a USB stick. After that, click on the shortcut and select one of the following options: Encrypt USB Drive (set a password) or Hide Folder (hide the folder).
There is another very good analogue - the USB Safeguard program. It, as well as in the case of the previous software, is a portable (does not require administrator rights) application, that is, it is enough to download and copy it to a USB flash drive. This program is even easier to work with than the previous one. After you copy it to a USB flash drive and run it, a window will appear where you can enter the password for your drive. To access the files, just click on them and enter the password you created earlier. In addition, due to the fact that the program resets it after entering the password, you can set new ones each time, thereby increasing the safety and confidentiality of your data.
Thus, it turns out that each user, if desired, can easily secure himself and his information by means of special programs that set a password on a USB flash drive.
