Codecs are special add-ons for multimedia programs that allow you to view or create high-quality video, listen to audio files, and more. They are usually available for free download on the Internet, and should be installed immediately after updating the operating system.
Instructions
Step 1
Choose the appropriate set of codecs. The most versatile and best known are the K-Lite Codec Pack and Divx. The K-Lite Codec Pack offers the widest range of codecs available, but installation can take a long time. In addition, many people claim that this software is intermittently malfunctioning. Divx codecs are easier to install and are a collection of all the essential components for watching video.
Step 2
Go to the official website of the tools and click on the "System requirements" link. Review the minimum requirements and write them down. Be sure that your computer matches them and that all the components you install will work as expected.
Step 3
Go to the link "Codecs" and click the "Download" button. You will be taken to the download page. The DivxInstaller.exe installer dialog box will appear on the screen. Press the "Execute" key. A window will open with the words "Do you really want to run this program?" Select "Yes". Specify the appropriate installation language.
Step 4
Click Next and accept the terms of the license agreement. You will be prompted to add a "Yahoo! Toolbar". It provides quick access to useful websites and protects your computer from spyware and pop-ups. Determine if you need to install it or not. Click Next and the installation is complete.
Step 5
Enter your email address if you want to subscribe to the newsletter. Close the installer window. Three icons appear on the desktop: DivX Converter, DivX Player, and DivX Movies. Launch DivX Player and open any movie through it on your computer. If there are no problems with the image and sound, then the installation of the codecs was successful. If you wish, you can now watch movies on other multimedia players.
