Pregnancy is often accompanied by anxiety, increased nervousness, and mood swings. It is believed that calm walks in the fresh air and relaxation help to cope with this, and in most cases this is true. But there are also situations when the expectant mother simply cannot control her emotional state. Is it possible in such cases to take sedatives, and which of them are allowed to drink during pregnancy?
Instructions
Step 1
All medications should be avoided during pregnancy. This rule is especially important to observe in the first trimester, during which the intensive process of the formation of the organs and systems of the child takes place. During this period, the expectant mother can use herbal teas as a sedative. You can brew chamomile, mint, lemon balm and hawthorn or buy ready-made herbal preparations that have a calming effect. However, you should not abuse such sedatives during pregnancy: it is enough to drink one or two cups of herbal tea a day.
Step 2
Essential oils have good soothing properties. They can also be used in the first trimester of pregnancy, but only if the woman does not have allergies and lung diseases. However, essential oils for aromatherapy should be chosen carefully: some scents may, instead of the expected calming effect, only increase the nervousness even more. Coniferous, peppermint, orange, lemon, lavender and sandalwood oils are considered universal essential oils that have a calming effect.
Step 3
Motherwort or valerian can be used as sedatives from 15-16 weeks of gestation. These sedatives can be taken as tablets, infusions, or decoctions. Herbal preparations such as Novo-Passit and Persen are also acceptable sedatives during pregnancy. But although their composition includes only herbal ingredients, you can drink these sedatives during pregnancy only after consulting a doctor. In no case do not make an independent decision in favor of this or that medicine!
Step 4
During pregnancy, you should not take sedatives of chemical origin and any potent drugs. The only drug that is allowed to be used by pregnant women to normalize the emotional background and relieve increased excitability is glycine. It is an amino acid that has a positive effect on the nervous system. Glycine normalizes mental state and regulates brain activity, relieving drowsiness, fatigue, weakness, insomnia and increased nervous excitability. But you can drink this drug during pregnancy only as directed by a doctor, strictly observing the established dosages.
