MKV is a video format, which is a kind of interactive container where tracks with video, audio and subtitles are placed. It allows you to save high-quality video with virtually no loss in quality. However, not all modern multimedia players support this format, and therefore it is often necessary to convert it to the more common type of video file - AVI.

Step 1
To perform the conversion from MKV to AVI, special video editors and converter utilities are used. To successfully convert the format, you first need to install any of these programs. Among the most commonly used converters are ConvertXToDVD and Movavi Videoconverter. There are also programs like MKV to AVI Converter, Color 7 Video Studio and Sony Vegas.
Step 2
Go to the site of any of the selected utilities and download it. After that, run the resulting file by double-clicking on it with the left mouse button. Then proceed with the installation by following the instructions on the screen. After installation, you can immediately launch your utility using the shortcut on your desktop.

Press the "Add Video" button or go to the "File" - "Open" tab. Specify the path to the movie or video that you want to convert and click "Open" again.

Once the movie is loaded, you will need to configure the conversion settings. If you see the "Profiles" section in the program window, select the target file format from the drop-down list. Select the AVI section and select the desired quality of the final video. Depending on the program, to specify the final conversion format, you can also use the settings item, which is usually located in "Service" - "Program settings" at the top of the application window. Also select a folder to save the final file.
Step 5
Once all the settings are completed, click on the "Start", "Conversion" or "Start" button, depending on the version of the program. The format change procedure may take some time, depending on the file size and the performance of your computer. After the end of the operation, you will see a corresponding notification.
