Random access memory is one of the types of volatile memory. RAM is used in many modern devices, from personal computers to communicators.

The computer's RAM stores information necessary for the operation of the central processor. This device receives all the necessary data from the RAM cards. During the operation of the RAM, the addressability principle is used, i.e. each piece of information has an individual address.

The overall performance of a personal computer depends on the amount of RAM. This is not surprising, because the more information can be simultaneously stored in RAM, the more tasks can be quickly performed by the central processor. If the CPU received information from the hard drive, then modern computers would run significantly slower. On computers with a lot of RAM, you can use many different programs at the same time without affecting their performance.

Data transfer between the central processor and the RAM cards occurs through special buses. They have a high transfer rate, which enables the exchange of the desired data almost instantaneously.

There are two main types of random access memory: static and dynamic. Memory of the second type is used in RAM cards. Static memory processes and sends information much faster, but its production costs much more. That is why static memory is used to create central processors and video card chips. It should be canceled that the use of ultra-fast RAM (cache) increases the overall performance of the computer several times. This is due to the fact that data is transferred to this area in advance from ordinary memory cards.

For dynamic memory to work, it is necessary to constantly replenish the charge of the capacitors used to create RAM cards. This leads to the fact that certain periods of time the boards cannot perform their tasks.
