The standard tools of the Microsoft Windows operating system do not provide the ability to change the Start icon, but, nevertheless, this task can be solved with the help of additional third-party software.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the main menu of the Microsoft Windows XP operating system by clicking the "Start" button and go to the "All Programs" item to perform the operation of changing the appearance of the "Start" icon.
Step 2
Expand the Accessories link and launch the Windows Explorer application.
Step 3
Navigate to% systemroot% explorer.exe and make the necessary changes.
Step 4
Return to the main Start menu and go to Run.
Step 5
Enter regedit in the Open field and confirm the launch of the Registry Editor tool by clicking OK.
Step 6
Expand the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsNTCurrentVersionWinlogon, and change the value of the Shell string parameter to path_to_modified_file (for Windows XP).
Step 7
Download and install the free Windows 7 Start Button Changer application, freely distributed on the Internet (for Windows 7), into a randomly selected folder.
Step 8
Call the context menu of the loaded application by clicking the right mouse button and specify the command "Run as administrator".
Step 9
Use the Select & Change Start Button to view the suggested options for changing the Start icon, or directly select the Sample Orbs folder to select the complete set of buttons.
Step 10
Specify the desired set and wait for the application to create a backup copy of the explorer.exe file.
Step 11
Click the Start Explorer button and wait until the process of automatically replacing the set of system buttons to be edited is completed, or use the Restore Original Explorer Backup option to restore the original appearance of the icons in case of dissatisfaction with the results (for Windows 7).
Step 12
It is recommended that you create a system restore point before using the Windows 7 Start Button Changer application to be able to return to the original appearance of the icons in case of system problems.
