The satellite dish is purchased, the receiver is unpacked, and in order to immerse yourself in the abundance and variety of satellite television channels, it remains to tune the receiver.
The most difficult and subtle part of tuning is the correct and accurate pointing of the antenna to the satellite. The fact is that a deviation of an antenna with a diameter of 90 cm by only 1 degree from the optimal direction leads to a halving of the signal, and the instruments used to point the antenna have a much more significant error. This means that it is possible to point the antenna on the instruments only approximately, and the final adjustment should be carried out according to the actual level of the received signal.
- Connect the receiver to the TV set, set up the TV so that the menu appears on the screen. It will be impossible to make adjustments without specifying the local oscillator frequency, since a signal is received at the receiver input, equal to the difference between the frequencies of the satellite signal and the local oscillator of the converter. Open the antenna settings (Antenna Settings or Antenna Setup) and set the local oscillator frequency.
- Open the Channel Search item and specify the parameters of the satellite signal, which is accurately received in the area. The signal quality bars that appear on the screen will help in setting. Rotate the antenna until the quality scale shows a non-zero result. It remains to point the antenna so that the signal reaches its maximum value, fix its position and search for channels. It does not hurt to make sure that the desired satellite is "caught", because different satellites have signals that match in parameters. Pay attention to the signal level when tightening the bolts completely: this operation is dangerous because the antenna can be pulled to the side.
- "Search" for channels is actually not so much a search as loading data on the parameters of satellite programs into the device's memory. This data is transmitted as part of the signal and must be correctly recognized by the receiver. They can also be entered manually (manual search, Manual Search), which is more time consuming, but reliable. It is easiest to set up the receiver automatically, but it may take longer. The most effective is Network Search, but not all satellites support it (NTV + supports, but Yamal does not).
