Standard tools in the Microsoft Windows operating system do not provide password protection for the D drive, but allow you to restrict access to the selected drive. Third-party software will enhance your security capabilities.
Instructions
Step 1
Make sure the file system is NTFS or format the selected drive.
Step 2
Call the main menu of the Microsoft Windows operating system by clicking the "Start" button and go to the "All Programs" item to initiate the procedure for restricting access to disk D.
Step 3
Expand the Accessories node and start Windows Explorer.
Step 4
Expand the Tools menu on the top toolbar of the Explorer window and select Folder Options.
Step 5
Click the "View" tab of the dialog box that opens and byvbnt check the box next to "Use Basic File Sharing".
Step 6
Call the context menu of the disk D to be restricted by clicking the right mouse button and selecting the "Properties" item.
Step 7
Go to the "Properties" tab of the dialog box that opens and delete the accounts of all users of the computer, except for your own and the system account.
Step 8
Enter your account in the "Groups and Users" section and apply the checkbox to the "Full Control" field in the "Allow" column.
Step 9
Confirm your choice by clicking the "Apply" button and click the OK button to apply the selected changes.
Step 10
Download and install the dedicated Disk Password Protection application to:
- set password protection for OS boot;
- protect disk partitions and make them invisible and inaccessible to other users;
- install low-level hardware protection for hard drives;
- use password protection for launching programs.
Step 11
Use the command line support option of the Disk Password Protection application to hide the password protection process for the selected disk, and remember that even removing the application itself does not override the installed disk protection D. Only Disk Password protection can disable password protection.
