In the old days, entering BIOS from almost any computer was done by pressing the Delete key while it was booting. Nowadays, the task has become more complicated: manufacturers specify the need to press completely different keys to enter the BIOS. Dell is one such manufacturer.

Instructions

Step 1

BIOS (Basic Input-Output System) is a small program built into the motherboard that is essentially an intermediary between the computer hardware and the operating system.

To enter BIOS settings (BIOS Setup Utility), you must press a certain key on the keyboard during one of the short stages of starting the computer. In most cases (but, unfortunately, not in all absolutely cases), the name of this key is indicated on the monitor screen at the very moment when entering the BIOS settings is available. As a rule, a corresponding inscription appears at the very bottom of the screen, for example: “Press DEL to enter setup”, “: BIOS Setup”.

Step 2

The standard keys that must be pressed to enter the BIOS while the computer is booting are the Delete (Del), Escape (Esc), Insert (Ins), and F1 keys. Less common, but also quite common variants of the F2 and F10 keys. However, at present, the listed standard keys for entering BIOS settings do not exhaust all possible options.

Step 3

Different models of Dell computers and laptops require different keys to be pressed to enter BIOS. Let's take a look at the ways to enter BIOS settings for different models of Dell laptops:

- to enter BIOS Setup Utility for Dell 400 models, press F1 or F3;

- Dell Dimension and Dell Optiplex models - F2 or Del key;

- Dell Inspiron and Dell Precision models - the F2 key;

- Dell Latitude models - F2 key or both Fn and F1 keys at the same time.

If pressing the listed keys did not lead to the desired result, then you can also try the following options:

- simultaneously press the keys alt="Image" and Enter;

- simultaneously press the keys alt="Image" and Ctrl;

- simultaneously press the Ctrl and Esc keys;

- press the computer restart button twice (Reset).

Step 4

It should be remembered that the ability to enter BIOS settings exists only for a few seconds during computer startup. If the specified key is pressed by the user a little earlier or a little later than necessary, then the BIOS Setup Utility will not enter.
