New is not always good. An updated operating system can harm the device, and many functions will stop working altogether. And here the question should be asked, is it worth updating to the new iOS 12?
What's new
At the presentation, Apple promised to fix performance and optimization problems in the new iOS 12 beta. The company kept its promise, the iPhone began to instantly respond to commands and was less likely to be discharged.
In addition to fixing problems with the previous version, Apple has also improved the "iBook" app (which has been renamed "Book" in the new app). The interface has been updated in the electronic library and a "night" mode has been added.
The notification interface has become even more user-friendly. Now all received notifications are grouped into "bundles" so that the user can conveniently interact with them.
Of the minor changes, it is worth noting a completely changed set of wallpapers added to the device by default. The Weather app now displays more details. A new tool has been added called "Screen Time", which allows you to see the amount of time spent at the gadget. Detailed statistics on the use of the battery charge by various programs has become available.
Disadvantages of iOS 12
Apple developers have allowed 5s and SE devices to upgrade to the new iOS 12. However, their slight screen enlargement has not been calculated. This leads to constant "congresses" of the text, their overlap and, in general, the lack of opportunity to work with it. This problem is present in the AppStore application and on some sites.
Many widgets suffer from the same problem. The most distant example is the button for adding a new tab in the Safari browser, which is not in the middle.
This problem has not been observed since the iPhone 6, 6 plus, 6s and newer.
A similar problem was found in iOS 10, but Apple quickly found the problem and fixed it. Apple is aware of this issue in the new version and has taken to fixing it. Most likely, the problem will be fixed soon.
Should you upgrade your iPhone 5s and 5se to iOS 12?
iPhone 5s and SE are fairly old models released in 2012. The developer often suggested that users upgrade to iOS 10, which, surprisingly, worked and functioned successfully on the device. However, iOS 11 could not boast of this. Constantly freezing and having many shortcomings, the new operating system at that time consumed a lot of energy, which required the device to be constantly charged.
The situation with iOS 12 is completely different. All the shortcomings with energy consumption and optimization have been fixed, on the contrary, optimization has increased, the new OS works as it should again. Installing an operating system prior to iOS 12 is recommended.
