The method for unpacking password-protected archives does not differ very much for different types of archivers. As a sample, you can take one of the most popular - WinRar. Depending on the options that were used during packing, the contents of the archive with the password may be visible, but you will not be able to extract it from there without the password. An asterisk is added to the file names in such "transparent" but closed archives when viewed as a security label.

Instructions

Step 1

Regardless of whether it is possible to see files inside an encrypted archive or not, the sequence of actions when unpacking will be the same. First, right-click the archive and select the desired extraction option from the drop-down context menu - it will list at least three methods. Whichever one you choose, it will not affect the way you enter the password.

Step 2

The archiver will show a window asking you to enter the password for the encrypted file. In the appropriate field, you need to type this code word or phrase. You can copy it, if it was sent to you, for example, in a letter along with an encoded archive, and paste it into the field of this dialog box (CTRL + C and CTRL + V). Of course, the entered password for conspiracy will be hidden by unreadable characters.

Step 3

Then click the "OK" button to start the procedure for extracting files to the specified location. If the password you entered does not match the one that was specified when packing the content, the archiver will display a corresponding diagnostic message. You will need to specify the password and repeat the operation again.
