A 3D graphics accelerator, or graphics card, can be built into the motherboard. More often, external video cards are used, for which you do not need to make any settings in the system. But for the built-in version, it is better to make additional settings. To configure a video card in the BIOS, you need a minimum knowledge of English and the ability to navigate text menus.
Instructions
Step 1
Power on your computer or restart it. This is necessary in order to enter the system BIOS.
Step 2
Press the button to enter the setup of the basic input and output system. To do this, after turning on the power, press the DEL key - in most cases this activation method is used. Some manufacturers use a different method, using the F2 or F10 button.
Step 3
You should press several times so as not to miss the right moment in the boot process. If everything is done correctly, you will see the BIOS window, executed in light shades of white and blue. In this case, the top line will list the names of categories that can be configured. Or a window with two columns of settings group names on a dark blue background. It depends on the manufacturer of the BIOS firmware on your motherboard.
Step 4
Find and select the settings item with the word Chipset. Various options are possible, for example Chipset settings or advanced chipset settings. In the blue and white BIOS, you first need to select the Advanced menu tab and activate the desired line in it. Use the direction arrows on your keyboard to navigate through the settings. The Enter key is used to select. That is, when you select a line and press "Enter", you get into a submenu with a list of options or actions. And by pressing Enter in the line with the setting operation, you get the opportunity to change the value - this is the setting of the video card in the BIOS.
Step 5
Select the menu item responsible for the video memory size. It is usually called Graphics Aperture Size, AGP Aperture Size, or shared memory. Specify as large a number as possible from the list available for selection, for example, 256 MB or 512 MB. This will allow the graphics card to run with the specified amount of memory and speed up the graphics subsystem. Be aware that RAM is being used. If you have less than one gigabyte, then the computer may slow down at high video memory values.
Step 6
Save the graphics card settings you made. To do this, press the Esc key and select the EXIT menu. Find the line that says "Save Changes" and press Enter. A message will appear asking you to confirm or cancel the save: press the Y key, the computer will close the BIOS and reboot.
