The need to replace one file with another arises quite often and this operation may not always be as simple as it seems. Several options for the sequence of actions when replacing a file are given below.
Instructions
Step 1
If you need to replace a regular (non-system) file, you can do this as follows. Press CTRL + E to open Windows Explorer. You can do the same by double-clicking on the "My Computer" icon. In the left pane of the folder tree explorer, navigate to where your new file is stored, click it and copy it into memory. Copying is done by pressing the CTRL + C keyboard shortcut or by right-clicking and selecting the appropriate item in the menu. Now, in the left pane of the folder tree explorer, navigate to the file you want to replace. If you do not know exactly where it is stored - on the "Start" button in the "Find" section, select the "Files and folders" item, in the search window that opens, type the file names and click the "Find" button. When the file is found (in Explorer or with using the search dialog), click it and paste the file you copied into RAM. This can be done either by pressing the CTRL + V keyboard shortcut, or by right-clicking and selecting the appropriate item in the menu. If the OS displays a message about the impossibility of replacing, then most likely this file is currently involved in the operation of a program. Close the program and repeat the last step. If there is no way to close this program, then you will have to repeat the entire procedure by restarting your computer in safe mode.
Step 2
If you need to replace the system file of the current operating system, then the sequence of your actions should be slightly different. Press CTRL + E to open Windows Explorer. You can do the same by double-clicking on the "My Computer" icon. In the left pane of the folder tree explorer, navigate to where your new file is stored, click it and copy it into memory. Copying is done by pressing the CTRL + C keyboard shortcut or by right-clicking and selecting the appropriate item in the menu. Now, in the left pane of the folder tree explorer, navigate to the file you want to replace. If you do not know exactly where it is stored - on the "Start" button in the "Find" section, select the "Files and folders" item, in the search window that opens, type the file names and click the "Find" button. When the file is found (in Explorer or with using the search dialog), right-click it and select Properties. In the window that opens, go to the "Security" tab and click the "Advanced" button. A new window will open, in which, on the "Owner" tab, in the "Change owner to" list, you need to select the line with your username. Press the "OK" buttons to close both dialog boxes Paste the file you copied into RAM. This can be done either by pressing the CTRL + V keyboard shortcut, or by right-clicking and selecting the appropriate item in the menu. In this option, as in the previous one, if the system displays a message about the impossibility of performing the operation, then most likely at the moment this the file is used in the operation of the OS. To close it forcibly start the task manager (keyboard shortcut alt="Image" + CTRL + Delete), on the "Processes" tab, find the one you need, click it and click the "End Process" button. If you cannot close the program in this way, then you will have to replace the file after restarting the computer in safe mode.
