A footnote is additional text (explanation, editor's note) or additional information (link to the source), which is placed at the bottom of the page or at the end of the text and separated by a straight line. Almost all modern text editors allow you to fill the text with footnotes. Let's look at inserting footnotes (or links) using Microsoft Word 2007 as an example.

Instructions

Step 1

Place the cursor at the end of a word or sentence to which you plan to make an explanation or indicate the source of information.

Step 2

Select the References tab in the Word 2007 ribbon. In the References section, find the Insert Footnote or Insert Endnote buttons. Depending on where in the document you want to place the footnotes, make your choice.

Step 3

The serial number of the footnote appears, the cursor moves to the footnote text entry field. Enter your footnote text and continue typing or formatting your text.

Step 4

You can customize the number format and numbering of footnotes by opening the "Footnotes" dialog box - a small button in the lower right corner of the "Footnotes" block.
