When writing any document or literary work, a mandatory standard is the design of links and comments to the cited sources and materials used in the text. Most text editors use footnotes for this purpose. At the time of their installation, a link is created between the commented text and its footnote. A footnote is defined by two related parts - a footnote mark, which is placed after a piece of text, and the explanatory text of the footnote itself at the bottom of the page. A distinction is made between regular on-page footnotes and endnotes used at the end of a section or an entire document.
Instructions
Step 1
In the Microsoft Word word processor, select the piece of text that you want to comment on. To do this, draw the text with the mouse from the beginning of the fragment to the end, while holding down its right button.
Step 2
In the main menu, select "Insert" - "Link" and open the "Footnote …" submenu. The "Footnotes" dialog box will be displayed.
Step 3
Select the appropriate checkbox for the footnote location view in the window. A regular footnote is placed at the end of the current page, and an endnote is placed at the end of a section or document.
Step 4
Specify the format of the created footnote and other parameters of its installation. Define the desired type of icon for the link in the drop-down list of the window. Set the start and numbering mode for the numeric values of footnotes. As well as the scope of the specified footnote.
Step 5
Click the "Insert" button in the window. Automatically at the bottom of the page there will be a formatted field for entering the link content. Enter in it a comment to the selected fragment of the document.
Step 6
At the same time, a number or a footnote icon will appear on the page at the end of the commented text. It is linked by a link to the comment field at the bottom of the page. A footnote to the text fragment has been set.
