Step 1
Find and study the instructions for the motherboard of your computer. Visit the developer's site for this device if you have not saved a paper copy of the document. Find out what ports are present on this device. Turn off your computer.

Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws from the back of the case. Remove the left wall of the computer unit. See which slots are available for connecting a hard drive. These can be wide IDE cables and small black SATA connectors.

Check for loose connectors coming from the power supply. In this case, you can see a flat SATA power cable or a four-lane IDE connector.

Based on the information received, select a new hard drive. Before purchasing, decide on the following characteristics of your new device: memory capacity, baud rate and spindle rotation.

If you have a relatively old computer, do not connect hard drives with a large amount of memory, such as 1 TB. This may cause the device to malfunction.
Step 6
After purchasing a new hard drive, connect it to the motherboard. Connect the cable from the power supply to the appropriate slot. Now connect the hard drive to the computer motherboard. To do this, use a SATA-SATA or IDE-IDE cable.
Step 7
Close the computer case. Turn on the hardware and go to the BIOS menu. To do this, as a rule, you must press the Delete key. Open the Advanced Setup (Boot Options) menu.

Select the Hard Disk Priority submenu. Set the name of your old hard drive to First Boot Device. Restart your computer and save your changes.

Once the operating system has loaded, open the My Computer menu. Format the new hard drive. Create additional sections on it, if necessary.
