Personal computer, analog modem, telephone line, program for receiving faxes
Instructions
Step 1
First you need to make sure that you have special hardware in your desktop or laptop computer. An analogue modem is required to receive a fax using a computer. It can be purchased from computer vendors. In laptops, a built-in modem is provided for this purpose. But in the models of the latest generation of laptops, the presence of such modems is becoming a rarity. It is also possible that your desktop computer has a built-in analog modem card. You can find out about the presence of such a modem in two simple ways. Look at the back panel of the system unit. It contains various connectors for connecting devices. Compare them with the connector on a wired telephone. Try to insert the connector into the most suitable hole. If it snaps into place with ease, then this connector belongs to an analog modem. It is also possible to see the presence of a modem in the software settings of the computer. To do this, right-click on the computer desktop on the item "My Computer" and select the following items in turn: "Properties", "Hardware" and "Device Manager". In the window that appears, view the list of devices that are on your computer.
Step 2
You can receive a fax on your computer using the Windows operating system software. To do this, select the All Programs list from the Start menu and click the Fax and Scan tab. In the window that opens, click on the "Fax" button, which is located in the lower left corner. If this is your first time making this connection, click on "Create Fax". It is located on the toolbar. Then proceed according to the prompts of the setup wizard. Received fax messages are saved in the Inbox folder, which can be found on the left side of the program.
Step 3
In addition to the operating system software, special programs can cope with the task of receiving a fax. Some of them are: "Venta Fax", "Fax Machine" and "Snappy Fax". Internet is not required for these applications to work. Programs allow you to manage faxes, both in automatic mode and in manual mode. Thanks to the built-in schedule, you can always send a fax message on time.
