The connection of a local computer to the Internet, as a rule, occurs using an intermediate router of the company providing the connection service. When using the TCP / IP protocol, this device is called the default gateway. Sometimes it becomes necessary to find out the IP address of your ISP's default gateway.
Instructions
Step 1
There are several ways to do this. For example, you can see this IP address in the properties window of the connection of the computer's network card to the network. To get to it, open the main menu on the "Start" button and in the "Settings" section, click the "Network Connections" line. A folder with shortcuts of all created connections will open, among which you need to find your current one and right-click it. In the drop-down context menu, select the "Status" item to open a window with information about this Internet connection. It has two tabs - you need the one that says "Support". The IP address of the default gateway for this connection is listed on the very bottom line on this tab.
Step 2
Another way is to use the ipconfig utility from the standard operating system set. To do this, you need to launch a command line terminal. In the main menu of the OS there is a line "Run" - click it. In this way, you will open the program launch dialog box. You can do the same by pressing the hotkeys WIN + R. In the input field, type cmd and click the "OK" button (or press Enter). This will launch a terminal window, in which you need to type the ipconfig command and press the Enter key. The utility will start, which will determine and display the parameters of all available computer connections in the terminal window. The IP address of the default gateway will also be in this list.
Step 3
However, one must take into account the fact that when you connect to the Internet not directly, but through a router, this very router will be the main gateway for your computer. Accordingly, the IP address obtained by the above method will be its IP address for the internal network. To get around this obstacle, you need to either connect the Internet connection cable to the network card in your computer directly, or simply contact your provider's support service with a question about the address of the default gateway.
