Each major mobile operator offers its subscribers the opportunity to purchase a USB modem to provide Internet access from a laptop or desktop computer. This solution, although it has a number of disadvantages, nevertheless has become widespread, because in some cases there is simply no alternative to it.
One of the great advantages of modems purchased from cellular operators is their ready-made configuration to work with this operator, which significantly simplifies the actions required from the user. However, this advantage turns into a disadvantage if the quality of the connection provided by this operator at the points you need does not suit you. It is known that the coverage area of different operators does not coincide, and near a favorite cozy chair, the modem of one operator can work perfectly, while the other operates intermittently, or even cannot connect at all. However, to switch to the network of another operator, you will need to purchase another modem configured to work in its network. Of course, to the user this situation may seem somewhat irrational, because both modems can be technically identical and produced at the same plant using the same technology.
Fortunately, there is another way out besides buying a new modem. You can flash the modem by restoring its factory firmware, which is neutral with respect to any mobile operator.
To flash the modem, you must:
- Find and download the firmware archive.
- Remove the SIM card from the modem. After connecting the modem to the computer, you will be prompted to install drivers. Click "Cancel".
- Run the firmware installation program, answer all questions "Ok", wait for the process to complete (up to 10 minutes).
- Alternatively, you can install neutral software that can communicate with the Internet through any operator instead of the connection setup program provided by your cellular operator. As a rule, the distribution kit can be downloaded in the same place as the modem firmware.
- In the program, specify the Internet access settings of the corresponding operator. For MTS it is internet.mts.ru access point, mts name and password, for Beeline - internet.beeline.ru access point, beeline name and password.
