Step 1
First, determine the type of fan mounting. To do this, open the system unit and visually examine the possible options for installing the cooler. Usually screws or glue are used. The latter option is only suitable for connecting the fan to the radiator, because it is strictly forbidden to glue the cooler to the microcircuits.
Step 2
Now select the fan power. Find out the speed of rotation of its blades. This parameter directly depends on the degree of cooling of the device to which this cooler will be attached. As a rule, only one fan is attached to the motherboard, which is installed on the heatsink of the central processor. This is a very important part of your computer, so choose a sufficiently powerful cooler.
Step 3
Determine the type of power connection for the selected fan. The motherboard must have connectors with 2, 3, or four pins. If the motherboard does not have free connectors for connecting a fan, then select another device, for example, a video card, to which you can connect a cooler.
Step 4
Attach the fan to the CPU heatsink. Remember that both of the above devices are usually sold as a kit. If you only purchased a fan, make sure it is securely fastened. If the failure of the cooler is not identified in a timely manner, this can lead to damage to the central processor.
Step 5
Connect power to the fan. Turn on your computer and make sure the cooler is stable. After loading the operating system, install the SpeedFan program and run it.
Step 6
Look at the temperature readings of the sensor installed on the central processor. If the temperature is too high, increase the speed of the blades. Do not close the program to be able to periodically assess the state of the CPU.
