Like other phone models, the HTC touchscreen smartphone connects to the computer using a USB cable. HTC has several modes for connecting to a PC. Also, this smartphone can work as a wireless router.
To connect your HTC smartphone to your computer, you need a special USB cable. Usually this cable comes with a smartphone. If the cable is not included, you can buy it at a specialized computer store.
Connection for viewing files
Connect one end of the cable to the appropriate connector on HTC and the other to a USB connector on your computer.
Your smartphone will automatically open the Select Connection Type window. Here select the type "Drive". Please note that the connection selection window will open only when the "Ask me" option is enabled in the smartphone settings.
If the window for selecting the connection type does not open automatically, go to "Menu" => "Settings" => "Connect to PC".
Click on the "Default connection type" item and select the "Disk drive" type from the list that appears. Unplug the cable from the computer and plug it back in.
If you want your smartphone to prompt you to select the type of connection every time you connect to a computer, put a tick next to the "Ask me" item in the settings for connecting to a PC.
By default, the HTC settings are set to the “Charge only” connection type. This means that when you connect the USB cable to the computer, the phone will only charge. But if you select the connection type "Disk drive", the smartphone will be simultaneously displayed on the computer and charged.
On your computer, open the Computer window. The smartphone name HTC Storage will be displayed in the "Devices with removable storage" menu. By opening the HTC Storage window, you can manage files and folders on your smartphone from your computer.
If you have a storage card inserted in your phone, your computer displays two removable devices - HTC itself and a storage card. The memory card may be called “Removable Disk,” or whatever name you give it.
Connection for use as a modem
You can also use your HTC phone as a modem. To do this, select the "Internet modem" connection type in the PC connection settings. In this case, on the computer, you need to set up a connection via a smartphone, using the manual of your mobile provider.
If, on the contrary, you want to distribute the Internet from a computer to a smartphone, then in the settings select the connection type "Internet connection through".
Wi-Fi connection to use mobile internet on a computer
To do this, you need to turn on the Wi-Fi router on your phone. To turn on your router, go to Menu and Wi-Fi Router. An instruction will appear on the screen, click OK. Then click on "Mobile Wi-Fi Router". The router will turn on.
To connect a computer to a mobile router, a Wi-Fi adapter must be installed and enabled in the computer. Often, a Wi-Fi adapter is pre-installed in laptops.
To turn on the Wi-Fi adapter in Windows 8, go to Settings and Change PC Settings. Find the item "Wireless". Move the switch to the On position.
Some laptop models have external switches - buttons on the front panel. If your laptop has such buttons, find the button that says Wi-Fi or the corresponding image, and press.
After turning on the Wi-Fi adapter, a new network appears in the connections menu - HTC Portable Hotspot. Click Connect. In the "Security Code" field, enter the code that is displayed on the phone in the "Wi-Fi Router" menu.
