For quick recording and playback of sounds, music and speech, it is very convenient to use a laptop, especially if you are on a business trip, go on tour or actively participate in a festive event. Knowing how to test a microphone in a laptop will come in handy for any traveling musician and sound engineer. This can temporarily serve as a good replacement for a real recording studio, albeit at an amateur level.
It is necessary
Microphone built into laptop, external dynamic microphone, Sound folder (Sounds and Audio Devices)
Instructions
Step 1
Open the Start menu on your laptop's desktop. Select the Sound folder under Control Panel (called Sounds and Audio Devices in earlier versions of Windows). In the new window that appears, go to the "Recording" tab. Next, select the "Microphone" recording device. Click on it with the mouse to change the parameters.
Step 2
You will see a small window "Properties: microphone", where you can enable and disable the device itself, adjust the volume balance, select sound effects, set the elements of the recording quality - bit depth and sampling rate for use in general mode.
Step 3
You can use the microphone already built into the laptop, as well as connect an external dynamic microphone through the special red Microphone jack. It is located next to the line-in and headphone jack. In the Microphone Properties folder, click on the General tab. Then in the lower field "Use device" select the arrow "Use this device". After that press the "Ok" button. The microphone should turn on.
Step 4
In order to adjust the volume balance, go to the appropriate section "Levels". Adjust the mic and amp sliders to the level you want. Click Ok. Always listen carefully to see if the sound comes from the speakers of the speakers, since only the presence of sound really allows you to check the microphone in your laptop. Also use additional functions if you are going to add sound effects to the sound of the microphone.
