Decreasing the spacing between words can be caused by several reasons - using multiple spaces instead of one, tabs instead of spaces, formatting text "to width", etc. The procedures for resolving these causes will differ depending on the format of the document in which the original text is stored.

Step 1
If the text, the distance between words in which you want to reduce, is stored in a file with the txt extension, then open it in any text editor. This format does not provide for the use of formatting commands, so excessively large spacing between words can be caused by using multiple spaces or tabs instead of one space. In this case, the procedure for reducing the distance between words will be reduced to finding and replacing all double spaces and tabs with single spaces. The Find and Replace dialog is usually opened by pressing CTRL + H or CTRL + R (depending on the settings of the editor used). Click them or select the appropriate item in the menu.
Step 2
Enter a tab character in the search box. For example, in the text editor Microsoft Word, this can be done by first clicking the "More" button, then the "Special" button and selecting the "Tab character" line from the drop-down list. In simpler editors (such as Notepad), it is easier to copy the tab character in the text and paste it into the search box. Enter one space in the replacement box. Click the "Replace All" button and the editor will swap tabs between words with single spaces. This is the first part of the procedure.
Step 3
Open the Find and Replace dialog again, enter two spaces in the “Find” field, and one in the “Replace with” field. Click the Replace All button. Perhaps, such a replacement will need to be performed several times - do this as long as the editor finds double spaces in the text. This will be the second and final part of the procedure for reducing the spacing between words in unformatted text.
Step 4
If the file format supports text alignment capabilities (for example, doc, docx, etc.), then the used formatting commands can also cause too large a gap between words. To eliminate this reason, the file must be opened in an editor that has the appropriate functions - for example, Microsoft Word is fine. After loading the text, select all of it or only the block that needs and replace the intervals, and press the key combination CTRL + L. In this way, you replace the alignment "in width" alignment "on the left".
Step 5
If the problematic text is part of a web document (htm, html, php, etc.), then there are three probable reasons for the defect. Start by replacing non-breaking spaces (& nbsp; without a space after the &) with regular spaces throughout the document. Then look in the page source and included style files (extension - css) for justify and replace it with left justification. Finally, look for the word-spacing property there. If it is, then remove it along with the assigned value - this will return the spacing between words to its default value.
