The easiest way to create a local area network between two computers is to connect their network cards to each other using a twisted pair. This method will provide the highest speed of information exchange between PCs.

Instructions

Step 1

Usually, such connections are created not only to provide communication between two computers, but also to configure Internet access from both devices. To achieve the second goal, you will need a total of three network cards. If each computer has one network adapter installed, purchase another one.

Step 2

Connect it to the stationary computer that will later act as a router. Be sure to update the drivers for this adapter.

Step 3

Now connect both computers using a twisted pair (network cable). Plug the provider's cable (or a network cable from a DSL modem) into a free network card on the first PC.

Step 4

In this case, both computers will automatically receive specific IP addresses. This is quite enough for a local network to work, but not for Internet access. Open the settings of the network card of the first computer, which is connected to the second PC. Highlight the item "Internet Protocol TCP / IP" and go to its properties. Give this network adapter a permanent (static) IP address. Its value, for example, will be 157.157.157.1.

Step 5

Now set up your internet connection using a different network card for this purpose. Open the properties of the new connection. Select the "Access" tab. Find the item "Allow other network users to use this computer's Internet connection." Check the box next to it.

Step 6

In the next menu item "Access", specify the network for which you have opened an Internet connection. Proceed to setting up a second computer. Open the properties of the Internet Protocol TCP / IP.

Step 7

Enter an IP address that matches the first three segments with the address of the first computer, for example 157.157.157.5. Now fill in the "Preferred DNS Server" and "Default Gateway" items with the IP address of the host PC. Save the settings.
