WINS (Windows Internet Name Service) servers are designed to dynamically map IP addresses to computer names (NetBIOS names). This allows users to use their names rather than computer addresses to access resources.

Instructions
Step 1
Please make sure of the following before installing the Wins server. The first is to properly configure your operating system. The installation of this server is optimal on Windows Server, be sure to check that the services are configured correctly to ensure optimal performance and security.
Step 2
Check it out using the table provided at https://technet.microsoft.com/ru-ru/library/cc785922(WS.10).aspx. Decide on the number and location of servers you want to install. You also need your computer to have a static IP address in order to configure the Wins server.
Step 3
Make sure all of your hard drives are NTFS formatted. Using FAT32 is unsafe, there is no support for file compression, file encryption, and file permission setting. Turn on Windows Firewall before configuring Wins. You also need to install and activate the "Security Configuration Wizard".
Step 4
Run the Server Configuration Wizard by going to the "Manage this Server" program ("Start" - "Control Panel" - "Administrative Tools"), select the "Add or Remove Role" command. On the Server Role tab, select the Wins Server option, click the Next button to proceed with the Wins installation.
Step 5
Go to the Selected Options Summary tab, select the options you want. Click Next. Wait for the installation to complete, then the "This server is now Wins" window will appear. To view the changes made by the wizard, click the View Details link. Then click "Finish".
Step 6
Next, update the system. Set the path to the server database, for this select the Action menu, the Properties command, go to the Advanced tab and enter the required address in the Database path option. The configuration of the Wins server is completed.
