Step 1
Make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements for deploying a server on it. Depending on the tasks assigned to it, the requirements for the characteristics of the PC also differ. For example, to install a database server or mail server, you need to pay attention to the amount of RAM. If you want to raise a file server, the main condition here is the size and performance of the hard disk. It is better to use a computer with a Pentium processor for all these purposes, since it is more productive. Connect an uninterruptible power supply to your PC and equip it with a RAID array.
Step 2
Install the server operating system on the computer, this procedure is familiar to the system administrator. The only thing you need to pay attention to is the choice of services that will be installed along with the system.
Step 3
Check the boxes next to Domain Name System, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, Windows Internet Name Service. Create several partitions on your hard disk for the following purposes: system disk, paging file, user data storage, Ris. The system disk must be at least 10 GB. Create a partition for the paging file first.
Step 4
Configure the network interface to connect computers using the server over a local area network. Since the server is being installed, it must be accessible at the correct address. Therefore, provide the router with a real IP address so that you can later configure services on the Internet (FTP, VPN, Terminal Service).
Step 5
Specify the router address as the gateway and also as the DNS server. If multiple NICs are used, change the default interface names to those that you understand. In the properties of the adapter, configure the required settings for the local area connection. Check the box at the bottom of the window to display connection icons in the taskbar. Further system settings depend on what kind of server you want to create.
