The ability to increase or decrease the brightness of the laptop screen will allow you to control your computer depending on the external conditions. For example, in a dim environment, you don't have to set the screen brightness to full power. In bright light, on the contrary, the brightness should be increased. Additionally, brightness control can affect laptop battery life - lowering the brightness will increase battery life. The operating system itself, after some idle time, dims the screen to conserve battery power. You can adjust the idle interval after which the system dims the screen.
Instructions
Step 1
Open the "System and Security" section in the control panel and inside the section open "Power Options". Find the Power Plan Settings tab. You will see the screen dim time settings. Specify in which mode the dimming should work: when operating on battery, or when operating on mains.
Step 2
You can decrease and increase the brightness using the keyboard. Look for the keys on your laptop with the brightness up and down icons and the Fn key. When you press this key, you can use the buttons to adjust the brightness of the screen.
Step 3
You can also adjust the brightness of the laptop in the system itself. Go to the control panel, open the "System and Security" section and select the "Power Options" tab again.
Step 4
Find a screen brightness setting and move the pointer according to whether you want to increase or decrease the screen brightness. On some laptops, this pointer is missing or unavailable, which means you need to reinstall the monitor driver or update it from the Windows update site. It may also happen that your laptop model does not support screen brightness changes at all.
