Sometimes laptop users need to transfer data from one hard drive to another, for example, to the hard drive of a desktop computer. Most likely, the hard drive built into the laptop will not fit into any connector on the motherboard of a desktop computer. In this case, you can use special adapters.

It is necessary

  • - IDE adapter;
  • - USB adapter.

Instructions

Step 1

When do you need such an adapter? For example, you have been using a laptop for several years. After such a time, any hard drive will be close to depleting its resources. In order not to lose all the data that is on this hard disk, such an operation is performed. Data can be moved either to a new hard drive of the same format or to a hard drive of a stationary computer.

Step 2

As you already understood, in order to move information from one 2.5-inch hard disk to another disk of the same format, you will need to purchase 2 adapters. But in the absence of funds for the second adapter, you can get by with just one, using the computer's hard drive as a temporary storage.

Step 3

How is the connection to the computer carried out? The wide side of the adapter is connected to the IDE cable from the motherboard, and the hard drive connector is inserted into its narrow part. The power cable also leaves the adapter, do not forget to connect it to the power supply. The entire operation must be performed with the computer turned off, it is advisable to completely de-energize it.

Step 4

When the computer boots up, a new device is detected. In the Windows XP operating system, despite the Service Pack version, you will have to restart the computer. After rebooting your computer, you can start transferring your data. In the same way, a second hard drive (new) is connected and all information is copied to it.

Step 5

There is also another option for connecting a laptop hard drive to a computer: the disk can be inserted into a special hdd container, which forms a connection with a computer using a usb adapter. The transfer speed through the usb port will be much lower, but, in general, the purchase of such a container is much more profitable than a conventional adapter.

Step 6

The hard drive removed from the laptop case must be inserted into the hdd container and, using a USB cable, connect the hard drive to the computer.
