If you often work with a laptop, then you have probably come across a situation more than once when one monitor is not enough. For example, you need to give a presentation in which you have to use the materials stored on your laptop. To do this, you need to connect a second monitor. How to do it?
It is necessary
Laptop, external monitor, connection cable
Instructions
Step 1
There are two ways to connect a second monitor. The first method should be used if you just want to duplicate your laptop's desktop on a second monitor or projector. The second method allows you to expand the desktop, that is, you can run different programs at the same time on different monitors. However, consider the power of your laptop, as it may not be able to handle multiple resource-intensive programs running at the same time.
Step 2
So, if you want to duplicate what is displayed on your laptop monitor, then first turn off the laptop. This is due to the fact that most modern laptop computers automatically check for connected additional devices at system startup. Connect an external monitor to yours using the DVI or VGA port. If your laptop and monitor have different ports, you will have to use a special adapter. Turn on the power of the external monitor. Then turn on the laptop itself.
Step 3
When the system is fully booted, the external monitor should turn on automatically. If this did not happen immediately, you should wait a little. Sometimes it happens that the additional monitor turns on with some delay. Right-click on the desktop. In the menu that opens, select the "Properties" item. After that, open the "Options" tab. Next, you need to select an additional monitor and resolution for each of the two from the list. If you just want to duplicate the contents of your monitor, select the option to display on two monitors. If you want to use the second monitor as an additional one, then select the second monitor and under it put a tick on the item "Extend the desktop to this monitor".
