Step 1
The most rational way to switch the active video adapter is to use special software. You will have to install drivers for both video cards anyway. Visit the developer site for the laptop you are using.
Step 2
Find the Downloads or Software menu. Navigate to the list of applications suitable for your laptop. Download a program that allows you to configure the modes of operation of video adapters.
Step 3
If you don't find the software you want, try downloading the app from the graphics card developers website. In this case, it is recommended to first install the program that is designed for the integrated adapter.
Step 4
Install the application and restart the laptop. It is worth noting that when using an Intel processor and an Nvidia video card, you are unlikely to be able to change the active video adapter. Most often, the program will automatically launch the desired device.
Step 5
For AMD graphics cards (Radeon), open the AMD Control Center application. Navigate to Power Express Utility. In the menu that appears, click the "High GPU Performance" or "Low GPU Power Consumption" button. After that, the operation of the discrete or integrated board will be activated, respectively.
Step 6
Use laptop firmware to completely disable one of the video adapters. Open the BIOS menu. Go to the Advanced Setup (Options) tab.
Step 7
Find the display adapters settings menu. Set the option to Disable for the unnecessary board. Be careful! If after activating this option, the display disappears, shut down the laptop by holding the power button. Do not under any circumstances exit the BIOS menu while saving the settings.
