The longer you use your computer, the more fragments the files can be split into, and the more it slows down. Defragmenters are designed to collect parts of a single file in one place, thereby reducing the time it takes to access it.
Instructions
Step 1
The Windows 7 operating system has default scheduling options for weekly check and defragmentation of all disks. On the one hand, it is convenient, and you always use the most unfragmented data, on the other hand, if you are the owner of a weak computer or laptop, then this activity can seriously slow down your work and intensively drain the laptop battery.
Step 2
Before starting defragmentation, it is advisable for you to close all programs that actively use the hard disk. This is necessary to speed up the process and reduce the likelihood of conflict. Next, you need to clean up at least 7% of the disk that will be defragmented. This can be done by deleting some kind of massive file and emptying the trash.
Step 3
Run Disk Cleanup. To do this, sequentially left-click "Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / Disk Cleanup". The program will prompt you to select items for cleaning. Basically, without losing anything, you can choose everything.
Step 4
It will not be superfluous to get rid of garbage in the registry before defragmentation. To do this, you need to start, for example, the CCleaner program. After analyzing and cleaning the registry, you can start defragmentation.
Step 5
Next, run the preinstalled system utility through Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / Disk Defragmenter. Select the disk and click the Analyze Disk button. If after the analysis the program shows a disk fragmentation level of less than 10%, then you can skip defragmentation. If more, then feel free to press the "Disk Defragmenter" button. If such work with the drive has not been done for a long time, then it will take a significant amount of time. Depending on the size of the disk and the speed of the computer, this can take from 30 minutes to 2 hours.
Step 6
After defragmentation is complete, you can configure the scheduler to automatically start the process on a pre-set schedule. To do this, click the "Configure schedule …" button and in the window that appears, set the desired dates for the work, as well as the disks involved in them. The programs you create can also use the standard system defragmenter by launching it using the command line.
