The computer is connected to the network, but when you try to open the page, the browser displays a message that it cannot connect. A variety of reasons can lead to this, one of them is a malfunction of the network card.

Instructions

Step 1

Look in the system tray - does it have a connection icon in the form of two computers? If not, then it is quite possible that the network card on your computer is simply disabled. To enable it, open: "Start" - "Control Panel" - "Network Connections". In the window that opens, find the "Local Area Connection" item. The column "Status" will indicate its status. If the device is disabled, right-click it and select “Enable” from the context menu.

Step 2

The situation becomes more complicated if the list of network connections is empty. In this case, you need to check the health of the network card. Open the section "System" - "Hardware" - "Device Manager" in the Control Panel. Find the "Network Cards" section. You will most likely see a device marked with a yellow question mark or exclamation mark. This means that a driver is not installed for the device or it is not working correctly.

Step 3

In order for the network card to work, you need to find a driver for it. But first you need to find out its exact name. If you know it, find the driver through Google or any other search engine. If not, you will need the Aida64 (Everest) program. Run it, on the right side, select the "Computer" - "Summary information" - "Network" section and look at the name of the network adapter.

Step 4

After finding the required driver on the network, open "Start" - "Control Panel" - "System" - "Hardware" - "Device Manager" - "Network Cards" again and double-click the network card marked with a yellow icon. In the window that opens, select "Driver" - "Update". Specify the driver saved on your computer as the source.

Step 5

It is possible that the computer does not see the network card. There can be three reasons: incorrect installation of the card, incorrect BIOS settings and a malfunction of the card itself. In the first case, after disconnecting the computer from the network, you should check that the card is inserted correctly into the slot. In the second, enter BIOS and check if the network card is enabled. The third option is the most difficult, at home you can check the serviceability of a network card only by installing it on another computer.
