How often do computers lack additional USB ports to connect all their peripherals? Every user faces this problem once. To additionally connect USB to the motherboard, you will need to either install a PCI adapter or connect additional ports that are often included with the motherboard.

Step 1
In the case when you are satisfied with the configuration of the computer, your USB ports work at a good speed, and you just need additional outputs to connect new devices, you will need to additionally connect USB to the motherboard. Outwardly, such devices are several ports attached to the rear side of the system unit, from which the UB-20 cable goes to special connectors on the motherboard. Power off the computer and remove the side case cover before connecting.
Step 2
Find free connectors for additional ports on the motherboard. To do this, familiarize yourself with the board design in the user manual for the model you have installed. These connectors are additionally marked with identifiers located next to them, for example, “USB2” and “USB3”.
Step 3
Connect additional ports to the connectors and fix them with screws, leading to the back of the case, next to the outputs of other devices.
Step 4
Another option to connect the USB to the motherboard is to install a PCI adapter. This is often the preferred method for older computers that have USB 1.0 or 1.1 devices, for example. These ports do not support high speeds and are not compatible with the most common format today - USB 2.0. Before installing it, also turn off the power and free up access to the motherboard.
Step 5
Install the adapter into the PCI slot. Fix it with the mounting screws on the back of the system unit. Replace the housing cover.
Step 6
Turn on your computer. After loading the operating system, install the drivers to recognize and operate the adapter. You may need to restart your computer, after which you can fully use the additional USB ports.
