It so happens that we are going to watch a new episode of our favorite TV series, videos on YouTube, listen to music, play games on a computer, and suddenly we find that there is no sound. We check the volume, and it turns out that this is not the case. Why else can the sound in the computer speakers disappear?
Instructions
Step 1
Firstly, it is worth remembering that the volume is controlled not only on the speakers themselves. There is also a corresponding icon on the toolbar in Windows. Pay attention to it: if there is a silent mode, just disable it, and the problem will be solved. Also, it will not be superfluous to recall that video players have their own volume settings - both those that are installed on the computer and those that play videos online on sites. See what volume is there, and if the sound is muted at all.
Step 2
The second possible reason is, of course, hardware. The speakers or wires that connect them may fail sooner or later. It is also possible that the speaker plug was not inserted firmly into the jack, or someone accidentally or unknowingly plugged it into the wrong jack. The speakers have a green plug and must be plugged into a jack of the same color.
Step 3
It is possible that the current codecs responsible for sound reproduction are not installed on your computer. This situation can occur after reinstalling or updating the operating system. When upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 10, the codecs should be fine, but when upgrading from older versions, the old codec may not be up to date. In this case, it needs to be updated. Download the latest codec pack and install. Use only official and trusted sources so as not to infect your computer with malware.
Step 4
The driver might be up to date, but it stopped responding for some reason. This happens quite often, therefore, if you have not reinstalled the system, you do not need to rush to update the drivers right away. To get started, try simply restarting your computer - in most cases this helps. But if the sound starts to disappear on a regular basis, you will most likely need to reinstall Windows.
Step 5
Finally, you may have a broken sound card. If you see that all systems are working as they should, the speakers are working properly, but there is no sound, this option is quite likely. You can check this by installing another sound card and installing drivers for it. If everything works with the new card, but not with the old one, we draw conclusions: this component needs to be repaired or changed.
