If your personal computer is connected to the Internet via an external modem or router, then this means that it has its own local network address. Moreover, every computer connected to a local network has such an address. It is issued automatically either by the device that controls the local network (for example, a router), or by the corresponding component of the operating system. There are several ways to find out the network address your computer is using.
Instructions
Step 1
If any of the versions of Windows is installed on the computer, you can see the network address in the properties of the network connection. As a rule, the connection to the network occurs automatically immediately after the computer is booted up and the user is authorized. The corresponding icon with information appears in the notification area of the taskbar - in the lower right corner of the screen. In Windows 7, clicking on this icon brings up the link "Network and Sharing Center" - click it.
Step 2
Click on the "Local Area Connection" link in the "View active networks" section of the window that opens. In the connection status window, click the "Details" button and in the "IPv4 address" line you will see the network address of this computer.
Step 3
Instead of the Local Area Connection link, you can use the View Full Map link. In this case, the operating system will collect all information about the local computers collected in the network, routers or modems involved in it. By hovering your mouse over any computer (including your own) or network device, you will see the network address assigned to it.
Step 4
When using any of the versions of the MacOS operating system, you can see the computer's network address even before logging into the system - it is placed on the login screen above the login and password fields.
Step 5
After logging into the MacOS system, you can find out the network address, for example, through the "System Preferences" component. Click on the apple icon and select Finder from the pop-up menu. Then open "System Preferences" and click on the "Network" line. In the left pane of the window that opens, select the connection that is currently used by the computer - it has a green mark. In the right pane you will see the "Status" section, in which the network IP address of the computer will be indicated.
