Sometimes you need to recognize a previously scanned but unprocessed document in order to use the data to import it into another electronic document. One of the programs in the Microsoft Office suite, which is designed to work with scanned copies of documents, is best suited for this.
Necessary
Microsoft Office Document Imaging software
Instructions
Step 1
We will use this utility from the 2003 software package as an example. To launch it, click the Start menu and select All Programs (for Windows XP and newer) or Programs (for older Windows systems). In the list that opens, find the Microsoft Office item and start Microsoft Office Document Imaging.
Step 2
In the main window of the program, click the top menu "File" and select the line "Open". In the "Open file" window, you must specify the location of the scanned document (tif format). After selecting it, press the "Open" button or press Enter.
Step 3
To perform the text recognition operation, you must use the internal command "Recognize Text" from the top menu "Service" or from the top menu "File" (depending on the software version).
Step 4
The recognized text can be easily copied to any other Microsoft Office document. Do not forget that sections of text ready for copying are transferred to the clipboard differently than text from a regular document; there are some rules. For example, you cannot copy text by stopping the selection in the middle of a word, bringing it to the last letter of the word, and copying.
Step 5
The selection of the text is carried out not by the marker type, but by the frame type. To do this, click the top menu "View" and select "Select" (cursor image). After defining a piece of text ready for copying, click the top menu "Edit" and select "Copy" or use the context menu of this page.
Step 6
Switch to another Microsoft Office application. Click the top menu "Edit" and select "Paste" or use the "Clipboard" tool from the same menu. You can also paste the copied fragment through the context menu of the current document.
