Different types of office equipment allow you to work with documents in different formats and in different ways. Thus, a scanned document can be processed both as text and as an image. It all depends on what the final result should be.
Instructions
Step 1
If you want to scan a document so that later you can work with the text, make changes and corrections to it, you need to use a text recognition application. Such programs can come with the scanner, or be distributed separately.
Step 2
Place the desired document in the scanner, open the OCR application, scan the document. Call the text recognition procedure, wait for it to complete, copy and paste (or export in another way) the recognized text into a text editor. In the editor, make the necessary changes and save the document as a text file.
Step 3
The Microsoft Office Word editor provides the ability to save documents in.pdf format. To convert a.doc (.docx) document to a.pdf file, choose Save As from the menu. In the second field “File type” select the *.pdf option from the list of supported formats and click the “Save” button.
Step 4
When using OCR applications, a lot depends on the scanner settings. The higher the quality of the scan, the longer the process will take, but the quality of the scanned document will be better (without unnecessary noise). Consequently, the text will be recognized with fewer errors.
Step 5
If you need to scan text as a copy (regular drawing), set the options for saving the image in the scanner settings. Specify the format for saving graphics, which you can then open. For example, if your computer does not have programs that support.
Step 6
To convert a file with graphics from one format to another, use the converter. Alternatively, open the document in a graphics editor and save it in a different format using the options available in the Save as type field.
