The "Workstation" service belongs to the category of standard services of the Microsoft Windows operating system and can be disabled by standard means of the system itself.
Instructions
Step 1
Make sure you understand the role of the Workstation service in providing connectivity to file or printer shares and the implications of disabling it. This action can be recommended only as a temporary measure on home computers not connected to the Internet.

It should also be borne in mind that the following services are directly associated with the Workstation service in the Microsoft Windows operating system:
- browser;
- messaging services;
- annunciator;
- RPC (Remote Procedure Call Locator);
- network logon.
Step 3
Call the main menu of the Microsoft Windows XP operating system by clicking the "Start" button to perform the operation of disabling the "Workstation" service and go to the "Run" item.

Use the simultaneous pressing of the Win + K function keys for an alternative call to the Run dialog and enter the value services.msc in the Open field.
Step 5
Confirm the execution of the command to launch the control console by clicking OK and call the context menu of the "Workstation" element by right-clicking.

Select Properties and apply the checkbox to Disabled in the Startup Type section.
