Some computer problems and a drop in computer performance can be due to many reasons. One of them is the unsatisfactory condition of the hard disk, the presence of errors on it. You can resolve these problems by performing an error check on the hard drive.
Instructions
Step 1
Open My Computer. If you do not have a corresponding shortcut on your desktop, go to the Start panel and open My Computer.
Step 2
Right-click on the disk you are going to check. Look at its properties by clicking on the corresponding item in the drop-down menu.
Step 3
Select the tab called Service and click on the check execution button. If necessary, enter the administrator password, or its confirmation, if such a request appears.
Step 4
Then you can put a check mark on several checkboxes. The checkbox for automatically fixing system errors will automatically fix all found errors and problems. If the checkbox is unchecked, the system will only inform about errors.
Step 5
The check and repair bad sectors checkbox will allow you to perform a more thorough check of the hard drive, which, however, may take much more time.
Step 6
Press the Start button and wait until the operation is over. The larger the disk, the longer it will take to check it. To keep the process running as quickly as possible, do not perform any other tasks while checking the disk. Better yet, move away from the computer and do eye exercises.
