Virtual private networks (VPNs) are usually created to connect large numbers of computers to the Internet. Typically, the VPN is activated and configured over an existing local network.
Instructions
Step 1
The Windows XP operating system is capable of maintaining a VPN connection. Turn on the computer running the provided OS and wait for it to load. Log in with an administrator account.
Step 2
Open the "Start" menu by pressing the appropriate key and go to "Settings". Open Control Panel and select the "Network Connections" menu. In the left column with the heading "Network Tasks", the link "Create a new connection" will be displayed. Open it.
Step 3
In the first window of the New Connection Wizard, just click the Next button. In the next dialog box, check the box next to “Connect to the network at my workplace”. Click "Next".
Step 4
Now select the "Connect to VPN" option and click "Next" again. Fill in the Organization field by entering the name of the future connection. Click "Next". Enter the IP address or server name in the field that appears. Proceed to the next item.
Step 5
Add a shortcut to the connection to the desktop by checking the box next to the corresponding item. Click the Finish button. Enter your username and password in the form provided. Save your settings and click the Properties button.
Step 6
Open the Security tab after launching the new menu. Specify the parameters that are required for a successful connection to the provider's server. Now select the "Options" tab.
Step 7
Change the connection type if required. Typically PPPTP and L2TP are used for VPN connections. Click the Ok button. Wait for the update of the connection parameters.
Step 8
Connect to the Internet and check the functionality of the created network. If the connection fails, check the settings of the computer's network card. Make sure you are using the correct parameters for TCP / IP.
