The desktop is usually called all the screen space occupied by the graphical interface of the operating system. In an OS using a "windowed" model, it can be considered a non-collapsible window of the most basic level. However, in Windows, a regular directory is associated with the desktop, with which you can perform familiar operations, including creating new folders or copying and moving existing ones.
Instructions
Step 1
You can create a folder on your desktop. To do this, call the context menu by right-clicking on the background image, and open the section in it, which is called “Create”. Select the topmost item in the list of items in this section - "Folder". The required object will be created and the mode for editing its name will be activated. Enter the text you want. If you just press Enter, the default New Folder will be used as the name.
Step 2
You can copy an existing folder to your desktop using Explorer, the standard Windows file manager. Launch this application by pressing the Win + E key combination. Using the directory tree, navigate to the desired folder, right-click on it and select the "Copy to folder" line in the pop-up menu. This command opens a dialog box with a similar directory tree, at the very top of which there is a line "Desktop" - select it and click the "Copy" button.
Step 3
An alternative way to copy a folder to the desktop is using a drag and drop mechanism. As in the previous step, find the desired folder using Explorer, and then drag it from the file manager window to the desktop with the right mouse button. When you release the button, a menu of several items will pop up - select the "Copy" line.
Step 4
Drag and drop can also be used to create a copy of an object on the desktop from the main menu of the operating system. Press the Win key and in the menu that opens, find the folder you need. If you use the left mouse button to drag and drop, this directory will be moved to the desktop - not a trace of it will remain in the main menu. If you use the right button, the process will proceed as in the previous step - when you release the button, a menu with the "Copy" item will pop up.
