Any operating system of the Windows series, including the latest Windows 7, provides the ability to automatically update, but many users wonder if this is really necessary. This service usually runs in the background, downloading a critical Windows update for a particular version. However, based on many years of experience, we can conclude that it heavily loads the system, requiring a stable connection to the Internet. Therefore, you need to figure out how necessary such an update is and whether it is necessary at all.
Firstly, it must be borne in mind that the update is available only if a licensed version of the operating system is installed on your computer. Otherwise, it is up to you to decide whether you want to look for updates and how much they will help your system work. If you have acquired good software, then you need to remember the cases in which automatic updates will be necessary.
Among them are the following:
- your computer is a server;
- Service Pack version 2 or lower is installed on the computer;
- some equipment stopped working;
- you are using Internet Explorer version 8 or lower.
In the event that your personal computer has a weak processor, but all equipment is working properly, and you are also limited by limited traffic, it is not recommended to update the operating system, since it may stop working as it was before the update.
In addition, frequent fixes can add new bugs to the system, and some of them may simply not be compatible with the specifications of your computer. To turn off Automatic Updates, go to My Computer Properties and find the tab called Automatic Updates. Select Disable and click Apply.
But even after that, the service still continues to work, so now you need to go to the "Control Panel" of your computer to completely disable the update system. To do this, in the "Control Panel" select the item "Manufacturer and Service", where you will find the section "Administration". There is an item "Services" here, opening which, you need to find "Automatic update". Right click on this service and select Disable to stop the service. If you reinstall Windows, this procedure will need to be repeated again.
