Opening (sharing) files of the selected folder on the local network greatly simplifies the joint work of users. Strictly speaking, the local network is intended for this. The procedure is slightly different in different versions of Windows OS.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the context menu of the folder selected for opening (sharing) in the local network by right-clicking and using the "Properties" item (for OS Windows XP version). Go to the "Access" tab of the dialog box that opens. Check the "Share this folder" checkbox in the "Network Sharing and Security" group. Type the desired value for the name of the folder to be shared on the Share Name line. Check the "Allow editing files over the network" checkbox if you want to allow other users to edit the selected folder. Authorize the application of changes by clicking OK and wait for the palm symbol to appear under the shared folder (for OS Windows XP version).
Step 2
Open the main system menu of Windows version 7 by clicking the "Start" button and go to the "Control Panel" node. Expand the "Network and Internet" link and expand the "Network and Sharing Center" section. Use the button "Change advanced sharing settings" and mark the checkbox of the field "Enable sharing, …" of the paragraph "Access to shared folders". Check the "Disable password protected sharing" checkbox in the "Password protected sharing" section and authorize the command by clicking the "Save changes" button.
Step 3
Call the context menu of the folder selected for sharing in the local network by right-clicking and using the "Properties" command. Select the Sharing tab of the dialog box that opens and use the Advanced Settings button. Type the desired name of the shared folder in the "Share name" field and check the box next to "Share this folder". Authorize the application of the saved changes by clicking OK (for OS Windows version 7).
