To return to the state of correct operation of the operating system, the "System Restore" application is used. Sometimes it is impossible to launch it using the standard Explorer shell, but through the command line it is quite possible.

Step 1
If after some actions it is impossible to boot the system in the usual mode, it is recommended to use additional options. Press the F8 key while the computer boots up and select "Safe Mode". But even in this mode, the system does not always function properly; to solve this problem, after pressing the F8 key, you must select the "Safe mode with command line support" line.
Step 2
Here you need to go through the authentication procedure - specify the administrator as a user and enter the password, if it would have been set when installing the distribution. Type regedit and press Enter to continue.
Step 3
Open the following directories in sequence: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Software, Microsoft, WindowsNT, CurrentVersion and Winlogon. Go to the right pane, open the shell option and replace Explorer.exe with Progman.exe. Close the Registry Editor window and save the settings.
Step 4
Next, you need to restart the computer, for this, in the command line, enter the shutdown -r command and press the Enter key. When you start your system, you must go through the authentication procedure again, log in as an administrator.
Step 5
The "Program Manager" application will appear in front of you. Click the top menu "File" and select the "Run" command. In the blank field, enter the following line:% systemRoot% system32
estore
strui.exe. Press the Enter key to launch this application.
Step 6
In the window that opens, select the required parameters for recovery, or use the recommended settings wizard. After the system restore is complete, you may need to boot into Safe Mode again and change Progman to Eplorer.
Step 7
It is worth noting that System Restore can completely recover the once lost passwords from many programs, but this way it will not work to recover the lost password from the account.
