Resetting, or resetting, a password in different versions of Windows operating systems remains one of the most popular procedures. The need to carry out such an operation can be caused by various reasons: from the loss of the administrator password to the impact of malware. The task is solved by the standard means of the OC itself.

Instructions

Step 1

Reboot the computer system and enter Safe Boot Mode by pressing and holding the F8 function key (for Windows XP). Specify the "Safe Mode" item in the "Advanced Options Menu …" window that opens, using the arrow keys and select your version of the operating system.

Step 2

Confirm your choice by pressing the Enter function key and use the Administrator account in the new dialog box. Enter the password value (if any) in the corresponding field and authorize the execution of the selected action by pressing the Enter key. Confirm the application of the changes made by clicking the OK button (for Windows XP).

Step 3

Start booting Windows 7 from the installation disc and skip the first regional settings dialog box by clicking Next. Specify the "System Restore" option in the next window and confirm your choice by clicking the "Next" button. Use the Command Prompt command in the new dialog box and enter the value regedit in the command interpreter text box.

Step 4

Authorize the Registry Editor utility to run by pressing Enter and select the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key. Open the File menu of the upper service panel of the editor window and select the Load Hive command.

Step 5

Open the disk containing the OC files and find the SAM file located at

Give an arbitrary name to the imported section and load it.

Step 6

Expand the branch HKLM / 888 / Setup and expand the CmdLine key by double-clicking. Enter the value cmd.exe and confirm the change by clicking OK. Also expand the SetupType parameter and change the key value from 0 to 2. Authorize the execution of the selected action by clicking OK.

Step 7

Apply the changes made by restarting your computer and log in in the standard way. Return to the Command Prompt tool window and enter a value
