The Microsoft Windows 7 operating system, like previous versions, uses separate accounts to organize the work of multiple users on the same computer. Each of these accounts can be protected by a password, the operation of changing or deleting which is available either to the user himself, or to the local administrator, or to the domain administrator.

Instructions

Step 1

If you are logged into the operating system as an administrator and want to remove your password, use the User Accounts applet. You can start it from the "Control Panel" - enter the OS main menu and open the panel by clicking on the link with this name.

Step 2

Click on the "User Accounts and Family Safety" link in the panel, and in the next window, find and click the "Change Windows Password" link in the "User Accounts" section.

Step 3

A new page with a list of possible tasks for changing the parameters of your account will be loaded into the same window. Choose among them "Remove your password". On the next loaded page, the applet will ask you to confirm the operation. To do this, enter your password in the single text box and click the Remove Password button. This completes the procedure and you can close the "Control Panel".

Step 4

If you have administrator rights, delete any other account in the same way. However, if the computer is a member of a domain, only the domain administrator can delete the passwords of all included users, not the local computer.

Step 5

To remove an irrevocably lost administrator password in Windows, use a "password reset disk". It must be written down in advance, preferably immediately after the installation of the operating system. You can start the wizard for creating such a floppy disk (or flash drive) from the same applet - in the third step described above, instead of the link "Delete your password", select "Create a password reset disk" in the left column. Then follow the instructions in the wizard.

Step 6

When you need to reset the administrator password, try logging in, and in the message that the password does not match the Windows entries, click OK. Then click the "Change password" button and install the created floppy disk or connect the flash drive to the USB port. Next, the password reset wizard will start working and you will only have to follow its instructions.
