To ensure the stability and security of their work, the vast majority of operating systems are constantly updated. The update is performed in the background and does not affect the user's work, but it consumes a significant amount of traffic, which can be quite expensive. If necessary, downloading and installing updates can be disabled.
Instructions
Step 1
The question of whether to use the system for downloading and installing automatic updates is asked to the user during the installation of the operating system, at one of its last stages. The easiest way to disable updates on your computer is to refuse them right during installation. To do this, select the "Never download or install updates" item. This will help you get rid of unnecessary costs of Internet traffic, but the system will constantly remind you that the security of your computer is at risk and that it is recommended to enable updates.
Step 2
The previously activated and used function of downloading operating system updates can be disabled by standard means. To do this, go to the "Start" menu and right-click on the "My Computer" icon. In the context menu that opens, click on the "Properties" item. In the dialog box that appears, go to the "Automatic Updates" tab and check the box next to "Disable Automatic Updates". This action will permanently break the connection between the computer and the developer's update server.
Step 3
Open the "Start" menu and go to "Control Panel". Find the "Automatic Updates" icon there and double-click on it. The dialog box that opens is similar to the one described. In it, you should also select the "Disable automatic update" item.
