Changing access permissions - Access Control Entry - in the Microsoft Windows XP operating system is a standard procedure, the implementation of which assumes that the user has administrative access to system resources.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the main menu of the Microsoft Windows XP operating system by clicking the "Start" button to change the access permission for the selected user and go to the "All Programs" item.
Step 2
Expand the Accessories link and launch the Windows Explorer application.
Step 3
Expand the "Tools" menu in the upper toolbar of the program window and select the "Folder Options" item.
Step 4
Select View and uncheck the Use Simple Sharing All Files check box.
Step 5
Call the context menu of the volume to be changed by clicking the right mouse button and select the "Properties" item.
Step 6
Click the Security tab of the dialog box that opens and click the Advanced button under Permissions for Authenticated Users.
Step 7
Select the "Permissions" section and specify the account to change access rights in the list.
Step 8
Click the Change Permissions button and go to the Permissions tab of the new dialog box.
Step 9
Use the "Modify" option and apply the checkboxes on the required permission fields. This action allows the selected user to make changes to a disk that was previously inaccessible for writing.
Step 10
Return to the Security tab and go to Advanced to change the owner of the required file.
Step 11
Select the "Owner" section and make the necessary changes, or use the built-in cacls utility to view the set permissions. To do this, return to the main menu "Start" and go to the item "Run".
Step 12
Enter the value cmd in the "Open" field and confirm the execution of the command for launching the "Command Line" tool by clicking the OK button.
Step 13
Enter the value cacls filename in the command interpreter text box and confirm the command by pressing the Enter function key.
