There are several basic methods to remove an operating system from a hard drive. This can usually be done without using additional devices, but sometimes it is better to use special disks.

Step 1
If you just need to uninstall the Windows Vista operating system, then follow this procedure from another computer. Remove the hard drive where this OS is installed and connect it to the second computer. This operation must be performed with a computer that is disconnected from AC power. Turn on this PC and wait for it to boot.
Step 2
Once the new hard drive has been identified, open the My Computer menu. Right-click on the partition of your hard drive where Vista is installed. Select "Format". Set the required parameters and click the "Start" button. Confirm the start of the partition cleaning process.

If you are unable to use another computer, then use the Windows Vista installation disc. Insert it into the DVD drive tray and restart your computer. Press F8 to open the boot device selection menu. Highlight the desired drive and press Enter.
Step 4
Run the installer for the new operating system. Go to the Advanced Recovery Options menu when the appropriate window appears. In the menu that opens, select "Windows Command Prompt". Wait for the new window to start.
Step 5
Enter the command format C: and press the Enter key. In this case, C is the letter of the local partition on which Windows Vista is installed. Confirm the start of the volume formatting process by pressing the Y key.
Step 6
If you want to install a new operating system, then skip this step. When the menu for selecting a partition for installing a new OS appears, select the volume with Windows Vista and click the "Format" button. Install the system on any partition suitable for this. Remember that formatting a partition not only deletes the operating system, but also all files stored on it.
